Training for autonomous climbing of large equipped routes.
Passing the course, gaining fluidity, climbing several pitches in the lead
This course is aimed at climbers who want to become independent on equipped long routes. Over 4 days, we alternate between progression on the wall and technical work on the crag to consolidate skills and build confidence.
Typical programme :
Day 1: Review of the basics of cliff climbing (belays, abseiling, belaying the second, organising the rope party)
Days 2 to 4: long route each day, technical work on the crag in the afternoon (efficiency in heading, movement, reading, etc.).
The programme can be adapted to suit the weather, the group's wishes and each individual's level.
Possible locations:
Chambéry basin, Annecy, Chartreuse, Bauges, Vercors, Aravis.
Drôme, Vaucluse, Verdon, Calanques, Écrins, Corsica for courses further afield.
Prerequisites :
All technical equipment is available on loan.
In practice:
Groups of 2 to 4 people max
Self-catering or shared accommodation, as required
The programme can be adapted for groups.
This course is aimed at climbers who want to gain autonomy on long routes. It is recommended that you are comfortable leading 5c crags. You don't need to be a strong climber, but you do need to have a bit of experience to be able to concentrate on learning about long routes.
Having climbed as a second on a few big routes is a real asset, but it's not compulsory. The aim of this course is to give you all the keys you need to become autonomous on equipped long routes: understanding how a rope party is organised, managing belays, abseiling, reading the route and progressing.
If you already have your own equipment, we'll check together whether it's suitable for the long route. If you don't have any, I can lend you some. In a group of 4, it's a good idea for at least one pair to have their own double ropes. This course will also give you a better understanding of what it takes to be self-sufficient over the long term, with coherent and complete equipment.
The course lasts 4 days.
On the first day, we'll do a refresher course on the technical fundamentals of self-sufficiency on long routes (belays, abseils, communication, equipment management).
Over the next three days, we climb a major route, then return to the crag at the end of the afternoon to work on the technical aspects that will help us become self-sufficient (lead climbing, fluidity, reading, placement and technique, etc.).
Where does the training take place?
I offer this course in different mountain ranges depending on the season: the Chambéry Basin, Bauges, Chartreuse, Vercors, Verdon, Calanques, Écrins... and so many others!
All these sites offer ideal routes for progressing towards autonomy on large equipped routes.
You'll have acquired a solid grounding in the basics, enabling you to work independently on equipped long routes, either lead or reversible, with a partner of the same level. You'll know how to prepare an outing, read a guidebook, organise smooth progress, manage safety and react in the event of the unexpected. This is a gateway to longer, more ambitious and wilder routes.
Yes, I can organise this course for a group. The content remains centred on self-sufficiency on long routes, but we can adjust the location, pace or emphasis on certain technical points according to your needs.
Live with your guide, from first contact to the summit.
