Avalanche rescue training

As an ANENA (Association Nationale d'Etude de la Neige et des Avalanches) trainer, I run courses on avalanche victim search and risk management in snow-covered mountains.

This one-day course will enable you to master the use of your safety equipment (avalanche transceiver - shovel - probe) and prepare you to react effectively in the event of an avalanche. You will learn how to conduct a structured search, organise a rapid and effective rescue and use your equipment in realistic conditions.

Aims of the day

  • Know how to use your rescue equipment (avalanche transceiver / shovel / probe) in a real-life situation
  • Conducting a rapid and structured search for avalanche victims
  • Setting up realistic scenarios to instil the right reflexes

Training programme

Morning - Fundamentals of avalanche rescue :

  • How the avalanche transceiver works and its limitations (port, group test, interference, search strategy)
  • Simple research, probing, team shovelling

Afternoon - scenarios and human factors :

  • Case studies: group research on multi-vessel scenarios

Frequently asked questions

It is aimed at anyone who practises ski touring, splitboarding or off-piste skiing, even occasionally. It's for anyone who carries a avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe, but isn't sure how to react effectively in the event of an avalanche.
It's also an excellent refresher course to be repeated every year.

We are working on the fundamentals:

Using and checking your safety equipment (avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe)

Searching for victims: single, multiple, probing and shovelling

Managing stress, roles within the group, prioritising actions

Realistic scenarios for real-life training

All supervised by an ANENA trainer.

On the contrary. That's precisely why avalanche safety training exists. It's best to train in a calm environment, so that your actions become reflexes.
We take the time to review everything, from the basics to more complex scenarios.

ANENA (Association Nationale pour l'Étude de la Neige et des Avalanches) is a leading authority on avalanche safety in France. As an accredited trainer, I offer you a tried and tested, structured and up-to-date approach, with concrete feedback on changes in practice.
What you learn is directly applicable to your practice in the mountains, starting tomorrow.
