Ideal for a first experience of long routes, and for child climbers! The upper slabs of Charmant Som are beautiful limestone slabs with grooves, clearly visible from the valley. The slabs on the east face of Charmant Som are ideal for a first outing climbing several pitches.
From the Chalets du Charmant Som car park, we take a path downhill that cuts through the middle of the slabs. This is where the route begins, as we climb up through this geological curiosity, the grooves and channels carved into the limestone by the rain.
Easy climbing, all on your feet, we climb back up to the simplest route before reaching the grassy slopes at the summit. Once we've had a snack at the summit, we return to the car park along the footpath.

🧗♀️ Yes, this is an ideal route for a first long route. The rock is solid, the equipment is close, the difficulties moderate (5b max), and the mountain atmosphere accessible. With the help of a guide, you can progress calmly, learning the basics of climbing in several pitches.
🧩 It is preferable to have already climbed a crag (even as a second) and to be comfortable in 5a/5b. You climb as second in the party, with the guide taking care of the opening and safety, so you can enjoy the route to the full.
🕒 The outing lasts around 5 to 6 hours, including the approach (around 45 min), the ascent of the route, the breaks, and the descent via the path. It's a full day out, ideal for immersing yourself in the atmosphere of the big route.
For those who are comfortable with the approach to "chamois terrain", it is possible to precede this outing with the lower slabs below the path. The pitches are more interesting and the climbing more aesthetic.
🌄 It's normal to be apprehensive! The setting is vertical without being too impressive, the belays are comfortable, and the guide takes you step by step. Confidence builds up very quickly, and you progress at your own pace.
Live with your guide, from first contact to the summit.
