Good climber

Trois Pucelles, Grange couloir: a beautiful and varied rock climb, with the first part being more of a long route, and the second a ridge climb. The proximity of Grenoble and the breathtaking views make this a must-do in the area.

Departure from the ski jump car park. Half an hour's walk through the woods takes us to the foot of the Maréchal couloir, between the Dent Gérard and the Couteau. We climb uphill on the right, via a small ledge and then a fun, back-to-back chimney. The route continues along a fault, taking in two chattières under stuck boulders. A short traverse on the north face of the Dent Gérard brings us to the Grange couloir. Two easy pitches lead us to the foot of a Cornelian dilemma! The "sandwich crack" to the right, a twisted 4+ that will leave you with memories. Locked in a maximum 60cm wide rollercoaster, we climb 7 metres in a jam. I love it! Alternatively, we take the more traditional left-hand variant, a 5.

From the brèche, we look for the Dent Gérard on our left in two more pitches. Then, retracing our steps, we climb Grande Pucelle and follow the thread. If you feel like it, you can cross a vertiginous breach on a 15m zip line. Thrills guaranteed! Once we're back on solid ground at the foot of the ridge, we can see if we can add the Couteau and the Pucelle de Saint Nizier to our collection of summits...

It's a day that's flexible and full of fun!

A very attractive summit that begs to be climbed. A very pretty and varied route just a stone's throw from Grenoble, which you can even do by bike + train!

Frequently asked questions

The Grange aux Trois Pucelles couloir is aimed at climbers who are comfortable in the 5 en second, with some experience of long routes or ridge running. You don't need to be an expert, but you do need to want to climb continuously for a day and try out a few aerial or unusual passages.

It's always better, because it's not an introductory route. We'll start the day with a nice varied climb, on generally very healthy rock, with a few relay manoeuvres. If you're not a climber and have never done a long route or ridge run, we can discuss this with you and plan an introductory day beforehand.

The traverse of the Trois Pucelles via the ridge is aesthetically pleasing and plays with the void, without ever being overly strenuous. We are roped up and belayed the whole way. The zip line (optional!) and a few breaches add a little spice, but everything is done safely.

For the traverse of the Trois Pucelles via the Grange couloir, you're in for a long half-day. In general, you should allow 5 to 7 hours in the field, including breaks. It's a complete adventure, but we're still close to Grenoble, so there's no need to sleep over the night before.

It's an original passage that I love! A 60 cm wide crack, to be climbed with your back to your feet. It's both physically challenging and fun, but you can get round it if you need to by taking a more traditional 5-way route.

I'll provide all the technical equipment: helmet, harness, lanyard, descender, etc. All you need is mountain-appropriate clothing, climbing boots, a small bag with water, a snack and a good mood.
