Via ferrata Roc de Cornillon – Bourget Lake
The Roc de Cornillon via ferrata is an ideal activity for experiencing the sensation of verticality in an exceptional setting. Located above Lac du Bourget, it offers a permanent panorama of France's largest natural lake and the surrounding mountains.
I propose several time slots to take advantage of the best conditions depending on the season and the weather:
Morning outing: meet around 9am
Afternoon outing: meet at around 2pm
Evening outing (supplement to be expected): meet at around 6:30 PM.
The schedules may be adjusted depending on the temperatures, sunshine, and weather conditions.
The Roc de Cornillon via ferrata
Suitable for ages 8 and up.
From the Col du Chat, an approach walk of about 30 minutes leads to the start of the via ferrata.
Technically straightforward, the route remains spectacular thanks to its dominant position above the lake. It’s an excellent first experience for families, groups of friends, or those looking to discover the activity.
The route is made up of three distinct sections, the order of which can be adapted according to the group's comfort and preferences.
The first part is also the most impressive. It begins with an aerial crossing over the lake. If some participants are not comfortable with heights, it is possible to bypass this section.
After a short rocky traverse facing Lac du Bourget, the route crosses a few fun stages made up of beams and a very short monkey bridge. A few vertical sections then lead to a long traverse offering a constant view of the lake, while the Dent du Chat dominates the horizon behind us.
The final section involves a traverse and a short, easy climb of about fifty metres, leading to the summit viewpoint. The panorama there is remarkable, overlooking Lac du Bourget, the Savoie pre-Alps, and the mountain ranges of Chartreuse and Bauges.
The return journey is via a pleasant path that rejoins the start of the via ferrata before descending to the Col du Chat in about twenty minutes.
