Via Ferrata Chambéry

Frequently asked questions

The Chambéry area is particularly well-suited to via ferrata, thanks to the variety of cliffs in the Chartreuse and Bauges mountain ranges. You'll find a wide range of routes here, from accessible circuits to much more exposed and challenging lines. This diversity allows for the excursion to be precisely tailored to the group's level, catering for everyone from beginners to experienced climbers.
Another strong point is the proximity. The majority of the routes are less than an hour's drive away, allowing for half-day or full-day outings without logistical constraints. Finally, the landscapes are very varied, with lakes, forests, and limestone cliffs, offering a true mountain feel without the need to go to high altitudes.

Several routes in the area:

Le Roc du Cornillon, accessible and panoramic, ideal for discovering the activity
The Roche Veyrand, full itinerary in Chartreuse with a lower section already supported and a more difficult and airy upper section
The Gesundheit in the Bauges, fun and varied
The Jules Carret, plus vertical and sporty in the Bauges

These routes cover a wide spectrum of levels and allow for excursions suitable for almost all profiles.

The choice depends mainly on physical fitness and experience on vertical terrain.

For an accessible discovery or outing, the Roc du Cornillon is the most suitable.
For a more complete ascent or descent, Roche Veyrand is ideal, with the option of doing just the lower section or the entire route.
For the more athletic climbers, the Jules Carret and the upper section of Roche Veyrand offer a greater challenge, with more verticality and exposure.

Yes, several routes are suitable for a first-time experience. Le Roc du Cornillon remains the benchmark for beginners, with smooth progression and little technical commitment.
Certain sections of Roche Veyrand, particularly the lower part, can also suit physically fit individuals, even those without extensive experience, provided they are comfortable with heights.

The most demanding routes are the upper part of Roche Veyrand and the Jules Carret via ferrata. These routes require good physical fitness, comfort with heights, and the ability to navigate longer and more exposed sections.
La P'tchi is situated between the two, with a more dynamic and varied character, but less challenging than the most difficult routes.

The duration depends heavily on the chosen route. Some via ferratas, like the Roc du Cornillon, take about 1.5 to 2.5 hours, including the approach.
La Roche Veyrand, depending on whether you do the lower part or the whole, can take half a day to a full day. More sporting routes like the Jules Carret also require a good half-day with the approach and return.

An outing begins with a welcome and a discussion about the group's level and expectations. I then provide the complete equipment and explain how to use it.
After an approach walk, I will give a briefing on the progression, managing the void, and safety rules.
The ascent then proceeds at a suitable pace, with constant support and rest breaks managed according to the group. The excursion concludes with a return to the starting point and a debrief.

All technical equipment is provided: helmet, harness and via ferrata lanyard with energy absorber.
Just bring walking or sports shoes with good grip, clothing suitable for the weather, and a small bag for water and an extra layer if needed.

Yes, it's even a great idea! Thrills, pushing your limits, a fun atmosphere, and shared memories guaranteed. I can organise a dynamic outing with a beautiful view and little challenges, while keeping safety in mind. It's also possible as a combo with another activity (canyoning, a meal, a walk...). If you're an existing group, I can adapt to your schedule and requests.
