Discover canyoning without any previous experience. All you need to do is know how to swim and be in decent physical condition.
We'll be in a unique natural environment, with rock slides, small waterfalls and pools. Jumps are never compulsory, and abseils (descents with the rope) are short and accessible.
Just 15 minutes from Chambéry, this water hike lets you discover the world of canyoning in a striking forest setting. The route is particularly suited to families with children around 6 years of age, as well as adults or less active groups who want to discover the canyon without big jumps, long swimming sections or difficult passages.
For families, the outing becomes a little adventure in the footsteps of a legend. A dragon, a young girl transformed into a salamander, bandits in search of treasure... along the canyon, the story accompanies us and brings to life the various places we pass through.
After 10 minutes of walking, we enter a narrow little canyon with a jungle-like feel. Short abseils, pools, natural water slides and a few jumps allow us to discover the river gradually.
A fun and accessible river hike
The route takes about an hour in the canyon. The obstacles remain low: small abseils of 2 to 4 metres, pools and easy slides.
The activity is particularly suitable for children, but also for adults who are not looking for a sporty outing. There is little swimming and no mandatory big jumps: the aim is above all to take the time to discover the river, the rock and the forest.
For the younger ones, the thread of the legend brings the outing to life. We make our way in the dragon's footsteps, discover the cave where bandits are said to have searched for its treasure, and finish our adventure in the final pool, looking for the salamander.
The story is primarily a pretext for looking at the natural environment in a different way. Along the descent, we take the time to observe the vegetation, animal tracks and the inhabitants of the canyon. With a bit of luck, we might spot salamanders, toads or newts.
The final plunge pool allows you to finish the descent with a small 1-metre jump, which you can repeat as many times as you like!
After a short break for a drink or something to eat, we walk back to the car park via a well-maintained path in about fifteen minutes.
Allow about 2 hours car-to-car.

I generally offer this water hike from around the age of 6. However, age is not the only criterion: the child must be comfortable in the water and want to take part in the activity.
No. Aquatic hiking is also very well suited to adults who want to try canyoning without doing a particularly energetic activity. It's a good option for a group of friends, a multi-generational family or anyone wanting to discover this environment at their own pace.
We follow the legend of a dragon in love with a young girl from Saint-Cassin, who was turned into a salamander by the villagers to escape him. Furious, the dragon is said to have created the canyon with a swipe of its claw before hiding a treasure there. Bandits later came to look for this treasure in the cave…
I'm saving the rest for when I go out!
You don't need to be an expert swimmer. The route involves very little swimming and no long sections in the water. This is precisely what makes it a great option for trying out canyoning as a family or for adults who are not very confident in the water.
