Canyoning Chambéry

We shared some beautiful moments !

Frequently asked questions

The Chambéry area is one of the best playgrounds for canyoning in Savoie. Several factors explain this:

A diversity of canyons

Around Chambéry, you can find canyons with very different styles and levels of commitment: from very accessible playful ones to more demanding routes.
Between the Chartreuse, the Bauges and the Savoyard préalps, you can easily move from an introductory canyon to a more aquatic and technical outing without changing region.

Immediate proximity

The main canyons are a 20 to 45-minute drive away. This allows for half-day excursions without heavy logistics, and real flexibility depending on the conditions.

Clear water and preserved environments

The canyons of Chartreuse and the Bauges offer generally clear water, with well-sculpted pools and a very well-preserved forest environment. It's a long way from overcrowded sites.

Wide accessibility

Here, you'll find proper beginner canyons, accessible to novices and families, as well as more challenging routes for those already comfortable in the water and on mountain terrain.

The choice depends mainly on your comfort level in the water, your experience, and the intensity you're looking for.

Canyon du Grenant

A fun and progressive canyon in Chartreuse, perfect for discovering the activity. A mix of jumps, slides and abseils in a very accessible atmosphere.

Canyon du Groin

More aquatic and more sustained than Grenant, with a sportier character. It already requires good water confidence and a real capacity to adapt.

Canyon of Ternèze

The “Aqualand Naturel” canyon near Chambéry. Short, very fun, ideal for a first experience or a fun outing.

Pont du Diable Gorge (Bauges)

Deeply entrenched and very aquatic, it is located in the Bauges. It is a short but intense canyon, with abseils, jumps and narrow gorge passages. A good intermediate between a sporting initiation and a committed canyon.

Gorges de Chailles (Chartreuse)

One of the most aquatic and longest canyons in the area. Lots of swimming, sequences of jumps, and a very wild atmosphere. It's a canyon where you need to swim, to be done in a good half-day.

Canyon de l'Alloix (Chartreuse)

A very vertical canyon, geared towards abseiling and rope progression. Ideal for those who enjoy technical challenges and descents, less focused on water games.

Couz Waterfall (Chartreuse)

A more discreet itinerary with a great vertical element. Less playful than classic canyons, but interesting for working on verticality.

Canyon de la Leysse

A discreet and less visually spectacular route, but interesting for practitioners looking for itineraries off the beaten track.

Canyon de Pussy (Tarentaise)

For expert practitioners. A more alpine canyon, with watered abseils and a very “mountain” atmosphere, in the Lauzière massif.

For a family outing, we favour short, progressive and safe canyons.

The Ternèze canyon remains the benchmark: very fun, accessible, and adaptable (jumps are always optional).
The Grenant can also be suitable for children who are already comfortable in the water.

For more experienced practitioners, several options exist:

Devil's Bridge: technique and enclosed
Chailles Gorges: long, aquatic, physical
Groin: engaged and supported
Alloix: vertical and technical
Pussy: Expert level, very alpine

An output always follows the same logic:

Welcome and discussion on the group's level
Distribution of full materials
Approach walk to the canyon
Safety and Progression Brief
Abseiling: jumps, rappels, slides depending on the canyon
Return and debrief

I am constantly adapting the pace and options depending on the group and the conditions on the day.

I favour a simple and realistic approach to canyoning:

Choosing a canyon suitable for the group's actual skill level
Small groups to maintain control and flow
Lecture of hydrological conditions
Safety and progression-focused support
Selection of various canyons around Chambéry and in Savoie

Oui, parfaitement !
